A store locator for 5 to 50 stockists: what you need and what it costs
October 2026
If you sell through a handful of retailers, the store-locator market can feel oddly sized. Some tools are free but meant for a single shop. Others are priced in tiers that start at 100 or 200 locations. That is our observation from reading those tiers, not a rule, but it matches the experience of a lot of small brands: your list is too long for a text page and too short to justify a plan built for hundreds.
This guide is for an indie brand with roughly 5 to 50 stockists. It covers when a manual list is enough, what a map adds, what to check, and what the main options cost. We make Nearmio, so we say where it fits and where it does not.
Who this is for
- You sell on Shopify and also through independent retailers, boutiques or dealers.
- You have somewhere between 5 and 50 of them, and the number grows slowly.
- You want shoppers to find "the nearest place to buy" without leaving your site.
- You do not want a map-account setup, a developer, or a plan sized for a chain.
If you have thousands of locations, need an API, or run a non-Shopify site, see the end of "When you outgrow it".
Manual list or a map?
A text list on a Shopify page is free, needs no app, and is fine for a short list. Our guide on keeping your stockist list up to date puts the line at about ten or fifteen stockists. Past that it breaks in two ways:
- Shoppers cannot search a list by distance. They scan a page of city names and hope.
- Every update means someone retyping an address into a page editor. That is the step that stops happening, and the list drifts.
So: under ten or so, keep the page and a spreadsheet. Between roughly fifteen and fifty, a map with search starts to pay for itself, because "which one is near me" is the question shoppers actually have.
What the free 5 includes
Nearmio is free for up to 5 locations with every feature included (see free store locator for Shopify):
- A "Store locator" theme app block you add in the theme editor. No code.
- Near-me, postcode or city search, a distance-sorted list, and one-tap directions.
- CSV import with a preview, and drag-to-fix pins.
- A crawlable store list with schema.org data, so search engines and AI assistants can read it.
The honest limits: Shopify only; a fixed layout where you change the heading, map height and pin colour; and other tools offer free tiers with more locations, so compare if you have a long list and no budget. Plans and prices can change, so check the current plan on the Shopify App Store listing before you rely on it. We do not describe the free plan as permanent.
When you outgrow it
The only thing that limits the free plan is the number of locations. At the sixth, you choose:
- Stay on Free with 5 locations on the map.
- Go to Pro, $9.99 a month flat, unlimited locations, with a 7-day free trial.
If you cancel Pro, you move to Free right away. Your oldest 5 placed locations (by created date) stay live on the map. The rest stay saved but stop showing until you are back under the limit or upgrade again. Nothing is deleted.
You might also outgrow Nearmio itself. If you need analytics, several languages, Google Sheets sync, an API, deep styling, or a non-Shopify site, tools such as Stockist and Storepoint offer some of those and Nearmio does not today.
Price maths
Prices as published by each vendor on 27 October 2026. All per month, in USD.
| Nearmio | Stockist | Storepoint | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Up to 5 locations | None listed | None listed |
| Entry paid plan | $9.99, unlimited locations | $10 for 100 locations ($8/month billed annually) | $25 for 200 locations |
| Next tiers | none (one paid plan) | $20 for 500, $40 for 2,000 | $49 for 2,000, $99 unlimited |
| Trial | 7 days | 14 days | 7 days |
What this means at your size. With 30 stockists you would pay $10 at Stockist, $25 at Storepoint and $9.99 at Nearmio, and with 5 or fewer you can pay nothing at Nearmio. At Nearmio the price does not change as the list grows. The tier caps at Stockist and Storepoint do not matter to you until you pass 100 or 200 locations.
We are not the cheapest option on every count: Stockist's entry plan is $10 and covers 100 locations, and other apps also offer free plans for small lists. Choose on features and fit as well as price. Detailed comparisons: Stockist alternative, Storepoint alternative.
Moving from a manual page
- Put your stockists in a spreadsheet: name, street address, city, postcode, country. One row per shop. Add a stable ID column if you want later updates to match reliably.
- Import the CSV. Look at the row-by-row preview before anything is created.
- Check any pin flagged "Needs fixing" or "Check pin". Drag it into place or correct the address.
- Add the Store locator block to your "Where to buy" page, then replace the old text list, or keep it below the map as a fallback.
- Import the same file a second time and confirm nothing was duplicated.
What to check before you choose a locator
- Does it handle your list size on the free or entry plan, today and at double the size?
- Does a re-import update existing shops rather than duplicate them?
- Are addresses it cannot place flagged, not silently dropped in the wrong town?
- Can you hide a shop without deleting it?
- Does the list exist as real HTML on your page, not only as a map drawn by JavaScript?
- Does it need its own map account or API key? Some tools ask you to connect one.
- What happens to your data if you cancel?
